In 1918, Lillian Hamblin ran an unsuccessful campaign for the Grand Rapids Library Commission. Hamblin ran on the Socialist ticket with Board of Education candidate Laurel Kosten and others. She received 1,177 votes. While the official ballot lists her as Lillian Hamblin, a newspaper advertisement placed by the Socialist Party refers to her as Lilian A. Hamlin.
