Ruth Stevens

An attorney and former law librarian, Ruth has been on the GGRWHC board since 2013 and is active on the GGRWHC programming committee. She is the author of a profile of Assistant U.S. Attorney Ella Mae Backus published in the Michigan Historical Review in September. 2016 and she has been an active presenter on topics such as women’s suffrage, early female attorneys, and women’s rights. Ruth retired from her position as a Legal Studies professor at Grand Valley in 2019 and currently serves as a member of the Grand Rapids Historical Commission and a trustee of the Western District of the Michigan Historical Society.
